POLKAMANIA with Bill Gula
airs Bill Gula resides in the Mt. Greenwood neighborhood of Chicago's south side. Bill is a professional musician, music teacher, and radio personality who was born and raised in the Chicagoland area. He began playing the trumpet at seven years of age, in the elementary school band. He attended VanderCook College of Music and is now the band director at several Catholic elementary schools in the greater southwest area of Chicago. Some of Bill's brass students have gone on to perform with Division I drum and bugle corps, and can be seen on the DCI summer tour. Bill began playing polka music while he was in high school. Starting with Stas' Golonka's Chicago Masters, he has played as a steady member of polka bands such as the Windy City Brass, Chicago's Milwaukee Avenue, Dynasticks, Prime Drive, and the EZ-Tones. He also 'filled in' with numerous other bands on the polka circuit. One of the highlights of his polka career was traveling to Poland to perform with Grammy Award winning, Eddie Blazonczyk's Versatones. Currently, Bill is a regular member of the “famous and fabulous” Ampol Aires Orchestra. Bill has also performed with and or conducted pit orchestras for local high school and community theaters. In addition to this, he has worked professionally with local Chicago rock and jazz groups such as, Rapid Fire, Crosstown, the Outcasts Jazz Band, and Vehicle, to name a few. As host of Polkamania, Bill wishes to continue promoting polka music over the internet/radio, and other media to the many people who enjoy good times, and happy music.
