The Family Polka Program began in December, 1972. Hosted by Mike Lozosky and Ted Rychlak,
their first show was only 30 minutes in length, but quickly grew into an hour and a half show in just three months! Ted & Mike hosted the Family Polka Program for seven years. Then, Mike's daughter: Connie, with her husband, Vince, took the reins for the next 16 years. Today, Janice (Ted's daughter), and her husband, Jay Lochner continue to keep the radio show in the "Family" in the 35th year of “The Family Polka Program” .
“The Family Polka Program” aired over WBMD 750AM in Baltimore, MD for 31 years until March 28, 2004, when Jay & Janice were forced to discontinue the show due to the difficulties of keeping enough sponsors to
help offset increasingly steep costs in airtime. (Six months later, the
station was sold to a Christian broadcaster who eliminated all ethnic
programming.)
In an attempt to keep polka music alive, they decided to bring their program to Internet Radio.
initially, their show aired on 247PolkaHeaven.com.
Today, their fine program can be heard exclusively on The Jammer
Network.
The name Family Polka Program describes the show perfectly: music for the whole family. They play all the current hits, plus some of the great artists of years gone by. Though it is primarily a Polish show, they do play German, Slovenian, and other varieties of polka music. The
program originates from Baltimore, MD.
