Keith Stras has been on weekly Chicagoland radio for 30 consecutive years. At an early age, Stras seemed to be interested in entertaining people. His late Uncle: Ned Locke, a 25 year veteran of Chicagoland television and radio was responsible for Stras being bitten by the limelight bug. Ned, a Circus Ringmaster on WGN'S "Bozo Circus" can also be credited for Stras' other love … the circus.
Stras, 45, a lifelong Chicagoan emerged on the polka scene at the age of fifteen appearing on WONX
1590AM alongside popular Chicagoland disc-jockey Richard Towalski (Li’l Richard)
in 1977. Since then, Stras has been heard over the air in Chicago for thirty consecutive years,
and currently hosts a local polka show in the Chicagoland area called
"Polka Classics" which can be heard Sunday mornings from 10:30am - 11:00am
CST on WPNA 1490AM.
During his career, Stras has been on nine different radio stations in Chicago and a successful seven year run on television in Chicago, Cleveland Ohio, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and Buffalo New York. During his television years, Stras was fortunate to be nominated five times for televisions prestigious Emmy Award. Stras was also inducted into the Polka Music Hall of Fame® in 1999.
Stras returned to National Television in 2004 on the RFD Network (www.rfdtv.com). Stras
serves as the Announcer and MC for the nationally televised "Jimmy Sturr
Show" which can be seen on DirectTV as well as the Dish Network. Jimmy
Sturr (www.jimmysturr.com) signed on Stras to be the Official Master of
Ceremonies for all his Polkapalooza events which are held across the
United States & Canada. Sturr remarked: "Keith's known throughout
the country for his booming voice & charisma! They lend to the excitement
of our Polkapalooza events."
In September of 2005, Keith Stras served as MC for the polka segment of
Jimmy Sturr's appearance at Farm Aid, taking place at Chicago's Tweeter
Center.
When Keith is not working in the polka industry, he is working hard to
bring the finest entertainers to Chicagoland. Scheduled to appear for K &
C Entertainment: Charlie Prose, The Stars of the Lawrence Welk Show,
Holiday on Ice, and many others. He also finds time to share the stage
with America's favorite clown: BOZO, a Chicagoland staple on WGN
Television for 40 years. Keith is now Producer & Ringmaster of "The Bozo
Show" which appears locally.
